A practical mind, a curious nature
I’m Gordan Grgić, originally from Zagreb. I’ve been living in Brussels for some time now. My technical experience includes work in industrial electronics, quality control, calibration and fault analysis, alongside repairs and renovation. I have always enjoyed understanding a problem and finding a solution that works.
It started with computers
I have been around computers since primary school, starting with a Commodore 64 and moving through PC generations from the XT onward. As a child, I was already putting computers together for friends. Finding the faulty component or noticing something others had missed was part of the attraction.
I still use Linux, macOS and Windows. My interest in technology has stayed practical: what can it do, how does it work, and how can I make it suit the task?
Experience in electronics
At Siemens (October 2006 – December 2011), I started in the production of pressure and temperature transmitters before moving into quality control. I analysed returned devices and carefully documented my findings. Those reports later contributed to improvements within the department.
At Altpro in Zagreb (November 2013 – December 2017), I worked in quality control and calibration for railway safety systems, in a department closely connected to development. It gave me further experience with measurement, testing and the details that affect whether a device works as intended.
A new chapter in Brussels
Moving to Belgium meant starting again: discovering the city, the country and a different way of life. Through people I knew, practical repair work gradually became a large part of my working life.
I repaired household appliances, worked on installations, painted and fitted joinery, and helped renovate apartments. Much of it was new to me, so I learned through doing. That experience broadened my skills; I now want to bring them into a more focused technical role.
Music brought the pieces together
Music has always mattered to me. I explore it, travel for it and enjoy the equipment that brings it into a room.
That interest led to MILA*, my personal audio streamer. I had the components at home and a clear idea of what frustrated me about existing players. I put my requirements on paper and began developing an interface around my own listening habits.
I lead the project from requirements to release: I decide what it should do, shape its behaviour, test every change on the real hardware and document what I find. AI coding assistants write much of the code under that direction. It is still in development, and I am learning as it grows.
Where I want to go
I am interested in work that combines practical technical knowledge with investigation and attention to detail: testing, diagnostics, technical support or integration, especially where hardware meets software.
After completing my Java studies, I enrolled in the AI & Machine Learning programme at ITAcademy, which I am currently attending. The programme covers Python, data processing, machine learning, deep learning and deploying AI/ML systems. Alongside these studies, MILA* gives me a practical project through which to deepen my understanding of Python.
Away from projects, I enjoy music, cycling and finding out how things work.
